30 June - 5 July 2019

In 2019 New Zealand will host the pre-eminent meeting of health geographers, the 18th International Medical Geography Symposium (IMGS). The IMGS is the main meeting ground for health geographers across the English-speaking world along with interested researchers from other disciplines. It began in Nottingham UK in 1985 and since then has largely cycled between Britain, Canada and the United States biennially. It has only been held outside those countries twice (Germany and France), and the July 2019 meeting in Queenstown will be the first time in the Southern Hemisphere.

The IMGS 2019 will be held at the Heritage Hotel in Queenstown, located amongst the Southern Alps in New Zealand’s South Island. The stunning Lake Wakatipu is a fitting backdrop for our conference theme New Directions, Enlarging Our World. The organising committee welcomes all individuals interested in environmental health, health policy, urban and rural health, global health, health equity, public health, and relevant research methods to join us in Queenstown June 30th to July 5th, 2019.

Abstract submissions and early-bird registrations open. Please register here.

The IAG Health Geography study group will be meeting in Melbourne on July 8, 2019. Direct flights from Queenstown are available. This meeting precedes the Institute of Australian Geographer’s conference in Hobart, Tasmania on July 9-13.
